As one way of responding to government’s call to reach out to victims of Cyclone Freddy in the country, Balaka Socials Football Team in collaboration with Balaka District Council today (Wednesday) donated assorted items to 119 households under Sub Traditional Authority Mpilisi in the district.Chairperson for Balaka Socials Blessings Kantema expressed hope that the donation will be crucial in the recovery process of those that have been affected by the devastating cyclone that has so far claimed 676 people as of today, Wednesday according to official figures.Kantema said the initiative was part of their core values as Balaka Socials to assist the vulnerable and this is why they did not hesitate to mobilize themselves and reach out to the affected people when the appeal was made.Some of the donated items include soap, clothes, shoes, packs of cooking flour, sugar and 5-litre bottles of drawing water.Chairperson for Mpilisi Area Civil Protection Committee (ACPC) Collins Chatayika hailed Balaka Socials Football team for the initiative which he said will greatly help them.
