Cyclone Freddy update
Balaka district has registered its first death from the devastating Tropical Cyclone Freddy following the loss of life of a child in Traditional Authority Chakanza.According to the district’s spokesperson Mary Makhiringa, the child went missing yesterday (Wednesday) after being swept by the flooding water and the body has been found today. The deceased will also be buried today. Meanwhile, 748 houses have completely been destroyed with 11 injuries reported, 1,402 households and 3,271 people have so far been affected by cyclone Freddy in the district. Of this population, 113 are elderly, 32 are people with disabilities while eight are pregnant women. But Makhiringa says the figure could be more as data from other T/As has not been collected. Nine T/As have been affected.
