Little ‘Miracle’ songbird

She penetrated the local gospel music industry in 2010 when her late mother Grace Chinga sailed with her on the Anandigula hit. Her electric delivery of vocals in this song was enough for Malawians to realise a songbird was being nurtured.
Like her mother, in the music video that followed, the daughter gave a spirited appearance to amusement of viewers. This is Miracle Chinga, one of the young talented gospel artists. She picked up the microphone her mother, Grace, dropped following her demise on March 16 2016.
While it seemed the mother prepared Miracle, it has not been easy for the girl to walk around with Grace’s golden shoes. Grace left a legacy. She gave heart and soul that made her legendary, in music circles and lightened Malawians’ hearts.
Since death robbed us of Grace, Miracle has been performing her songs in different shows around the country. Her energetic stage presence and influential voice really smoothed patrons’ souls, who ‘saw’ Grace Chinga’s spirit manifesting in her daughter musically.
In 2017, whether it was public sympathy or something else, Miracle won the Best Female Artist during Nyasa Music Awards edition. Some quarters were not pleased with pouring of olive oil on Miracle’s head and vented anger on organisers and the awardee, too. They believed it was wrong to honour a performer instead of artists like Zani Challe and Sangie.
This was the time for Miracle to slow down and build on the concrete foundation her late mother laid for her. She had to go off Grace Chinga’s shadow.
Miracle hit the booth and has so far released three singles that floated the knack to fly on her own. The songs are Ndiyemwe Uja, Hosanna and Mwapambana.
She said she has done 10 songs for her debut album titled Mwapambana to be launched soon. Writing on his Facebook wall, after the release of Hosanna in 2018, one of the renowned entertainment critics, Howard Mlozi, waxed lyrical of the song.
“My artist of the week (Miracle Chinga). Hosanna will take her to the great heights,” Mlozi wrote.
In an interview with Together Magazine, Miracle traced her roots in music to a tender age when she was singing in a choir at Full Gospel Church of God in Chilobwe Township, Blantyre.
“I was born a musician from a musician, my late mother Grace Chinga. The talent was discovered when I started singing in All Angels Choir. My late mother encouraged me and I knew spreading the gospel is in our blood. And I am proud to serve God through this,” said Miracle.
The 21-year-old artist was inspired by works of her late mother, saying she has been her model and everything musically. Miracle commends Malawians for the staunch support towards her career.
“They have been there for me through thick and thin. I ask them to keep on loving my songs. It is my prayer God meet their needs and bless them abundantly as they listen to my songs. We must cling to God because he is faithful,” says Miracle.
Miracle promises gospel music fans of more spirited songs from her for their growth in Christianity. Apart from music, Miracle sells fashion clothes and cosmetics.
