Behold: its Isaac Kaliati’s season

By Yankho Paketi

It is naked truth that Mighty Mukuru Wanderers’ attacking midfielder Isaac Kaliati is on song this season. Nicknamed ‘Chair’, the midfielder can’t just stop scoring as he is scoring for fun having banged in 14 goals in the TNM Super League.

To add icing on the cake, the revitalized midfielder has provided 7 assists that sums up to 21 goal contributions in the league. With many games left before the curtain draws on the 2024/25 season, it is obvious that Kaliati has not finished the job yet. Many goals are obviously coming his way.

In the massacre of Baka City on September 21, in a Super League match at Kamuzu Stadium, Kaliati hammered 5 goals with 3 assists and eventually emerged the Man of the Match.

Unlike last season, Kaliati was the shadow of himself as he scored two goals, according to statistics from Super League of Malawi (Sulom) website.

We failed to successfully reach out to him to ask what has been his secret to his ferocious rise in form. But going through his Facebook wall, Kaliati owes it all to God and hopes He will guide him through the season.

However, despite him enjoying one of his great season, Kaliati continues to be overlooked by Flames coach Patrick Mabedi who is yet to give him a call-up to the national team.

Despite calls from the media, sports analysts and the general public, Mabedi is still yet to be convinced with Kaliati’s breakthrough. During the Flames call-up for Burundi and Burkina Faso games in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, Kaliati was surprisingly a missing figure in the squad.

But as he continue to wreak havoc on the local scene, football fanatics are still hoping that Kaliati will be considered in the Flames’ upcoming games. Ironically, the Flames have of late been struggling to find the back of the net no wonder calls for Mabedi to consider free scoring Kaliati.

At the moment, football fans are waiting with bated breaths whether Kaliati will be called to the Flames camp let alone given a ride for the Senegal clash in the AFCON qualifiers at Bingu National Stadium in October.

As pressure mounts for Mabedi to consider calling Kaliati to perhaps solve the Flames’ scoring problems, the rejuvenated attacking midfielder continue to shine on the local scene.

Meanwhile, some fans have already tipped the 26-year-old Kaliati to be the player of the season on top of being the league’s top goal scorer.

“Isaac Kaliati will be the player of the season. He will also be the top goal scorer and I think he will also grab the prize for the best midfielder,” wrote Roy Banda on his Facebook page.
