Kicks of a dying horse: We are not giving up– Mwalweni

By Yankho Paketi

After Baka City’s 15th defeat of the 2024/25 TNM Super League Season to Bangwe All Stars Football Club on Wednesday, the side’s Head Coach Kondwani Mwalweni said they are nowhere close to giving up as they still have the energy to fight until the last drop.

Anchoring the 16 team-member table with 8 points from 21 games, Mwalweni remains adamant and vowed to fight tooth and nail until fate decides otherwise. Reaching this far, the northern region new Super League entrants have only won a single match, drawing 5 and losing 15. They have conceded 54 times and scoring 9 goals.

With the above record, one surely knows that Mwalweni will need more than a miracle to survive relegation.

However, sounding calm, he told the media in a post-match interview after their 3-0 defeat to Bangwe on Wednesday at Balaka Stadium that all is not lost.

“I am saying this repeatedly, we are not giving up, we accept the defeat yes, we conceded cheap goals but we don’t have to blame our goalkeeper, we are Baka City and we will correct our mistakes as a team so that we can earn some points and see how the campaign will end. We are not giving up,” said Mwalweni.

Baka City’s next game is against FCB Nyasa Big Bullets at Karonga Stadium on Sunday (September 29) and despite being at home, Mwalweni knows that it will be another uphill task as struggling Bullets are also trying to squeeze through the top 5.

The defending champions are currently seventh with 30 points from 19 games.
