FDH Transaction: Regional teams set to roll in FDH Bank Cup

By Precious Msosa

All appears to be set for the kick-off of the K90 million FDH Bank Cup in all the three regions of the country.

According to Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) chairperson Raphael Humba, he believes the success in both the Thumbs Up and PowerStat competitions will be replicated in the FDH Cup.

“We are hopeful that we will build on the success of the PowerStat and Thumbs Up competitions respectively. In these two competitions, no team has lodged a complaint with us and this gives us the hope that all will be rosy in the FDH Cup,” Humba said.

He said all the 22 regional teams that will battle it out in the preliminary round are geared to be among the six teams that the region is expected to produce for the national showdown.

Similarly, the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) General Secretary Masiya Nyasulu sounded optimistic of the prospects of the games slated for this weekend.

He stated that there have been no special preparations towards the FDH Cup preliminary games. Nyasulu said they expect the games to be highly competitive just as was the case in the previous edition.

Central Region Football Association (CRFA) Public Relations Officer Kondwani Kandiado boasted that they are also looking forward to produce a team that will go as far as the quarter final stages.

“As you are aware that Central region is the home of football as evidenced by our contribution of many teams in the Super League, we hope this time around we will also produce many teams that will reach the final stages of the FDH Cup,” he said.

In the last edition, the region saw Dedza Dynamos reaching the quarter final stages.

Successful teams in these games will then rock horns in the second round from where the winners will meet the Super League teams at national level.
