Who is Samantha Heaven Milanzi?
I am a Malawian creative entrepreneur born and raised in Balaka township. I serve as the Principal Designer and CEO of Milanzi Group which under its umbrella is Milanzi Construction & Milanzi Interiors, companies dedicated to elevating how people experience space.
Beyond leading the firm, I am deeply passionate about furniture design, creating pieces that merge functionality, culture and modern craftsmanship. At my core, I am a visionary committed to excellence, legacy-building and transforming lives through purposeful design.

Briefly share your educational background.
I hold a Diploma in Interior Design from the Design Institute, Advance Diploma in Interior Design from British College of Interior Design, Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Exploits University; Masters in Interior Design from Texas Tech University. Currently, I am studying an Executive Management & leadership at Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) and recently just got accepted for an MBA in Digital Marketing.
Many youths pursue employment after school. Why did you choose business?

Entrepreneurship runs in my blood. My father the late Mr. Peter Milanzi, was an entrepreneur full of wisdom, and my siblings have built successful businesses. Their inspiration instilled in me a responsibility to honour our legacy not by following the same industry, but by upholding the excellence our name represents.
I also believed strongly in creating opportunities, solving problems and building something meaningful. I knew our family carried a gift, a blessing from God in business, and that gave me unwavering confidence to follow my dream.

What exactly happens at Milanzi Interiors?
Milanzi Interiors is a complete interior design and space transformation company. We specialize in: Interior design consultancy; Décor and styling; Custom cabinetry and furniture design; Space planning and Project management.
Our commercial work transforms brands and workplaces, boosting productivity, confidence and performance. Our residential work creates cohesive, functional homes infused with comfort, luxury and personality. Ultimately, we provide strategic, functional and aesthetic space solutions for our clients.

What compelled you to pursue interior design? Is this business profitable?
I was driven by the impact that great spaces or perfectly thought about spaces has on people’s lives. A well-designed space can influence mood, productivity, can boost revenue and confidence. That inspired me. Interior design is profitable when built on professionalism, systems, quality, knowledge and strong client relationships. The demand for professional design continues to grow in Malawi, making it a rewarding and sustainable industry.

What do you find fulfilling about interior design?
The fulfilment lies in transformation. Seeing a client experience their new space the joy, the pride, the confidence, the improvement that comes after, this makes the entire process worth it. I design to solve problems, elevate lifestyles and improve business performance. The results and the impact on people’s daily lives are what keep me passionate.

Who are your key customers? What are your future plans on making sure that Milanzi Interiors remains a top-notch designing company?
Our clients include: Homeowners; Corporate companies; Organizations; SMEs; Hospitality establishments (hotels, lodges, cafés, restaurants, retailers). Our future plans are to remain a top design company. We focus on investing in our team, expanding capacity and equipment, maintaining strict quality standards, educating clients on the value of professional design, honouring our commitments and delivering consistently and excellence is our foundation not an occasional achievement.

What advice do you have for youths who believe employment is their only path?
Employment is not the only route to success. You can build a business around your skill and hire others to complement what you cannot do. Entrepreneurship is simply identifying a problem and providing a solution. Don’t fear starting. Don’t fear delegating. If you focus on value and innovation, you can build something powerful. Courage is the real currency of entrepreneurship.

Is the business environment in Malawi supportive of youth-led businesses?
The environment still has a long way to go. Access to capital, structured support systems and clear pathways for youth entrepreneurs are limited. My own journey has been challenging because everything has been self-funded. But it taught me resilience and innovation. We need more deliberate efforts to support young Malawians who want to build and scale businesses.

What are your future plans?
I plan to grow Milanzi Interiors into a regional design leader, expand our production capacity, and elevate my furniture design pieces into an international furniture line. I also aim to contribute to design education in Malawi, open a university with proper professional designers as lectures to empowering upcoming designers and raising industry standards.

What is your advice to the youth of Malawi?
Discipline is everything. Before you develop skills, develop character. Wake up early. Plan your day. Be consistent. Success starts with routine, belief and resilience. Close your ears to negativity and stay focused on your vision. If others can succeed in the same environment, so can you. Be disciplined, be fearless and believe deeply in the possibilities ahead of you.
