Mpinganjira says Ekhaya won’t compete for league honors

Ekhaya FC president William Mpinganjira has said his side will not gun for the FDH premiership league title this season because the team is still not yet at its best.
Mpinganjira told the media after his youthful side was crowned champions of 2026 Premier Bet Sapitwa 4 bonanza after narrowly seeing off Goshen City Dedza Dynamos 1-0 at Mulanje Stadium over the weekend.
Mpinganjira said emerging champions of the bonanza was a great motivation to the players and the technical panel as they tune up to the 2026/27 FDH Premiership League set to kick off on April 25.

Mpinganjira: We are not yet there
“I am very excited that we have emerged champions of the bonanza. As you can also see, the players are also happy and I hope this is a great motivation to them and the coaches. However, I also hope that the bonanza has also exposed some areas which the coaches need to work on,” he said.
Asked whether he sees the team winning the league championship this season, Mpinganjira laughed about it and said: “No, no, no, we are not there yet. We don’t want to give pressure on the team. What we can tell the coaching staff is to just aim at finishing on a good position than last season.”
In their debut season last year, the team finished on position 7 and qualified for the Airtel Top 8 in which they also fairly competed.
Head coach Enos Chatama conceded that the 2-day bonanza had exposed some grey areas which they need to polish up before the start of the season.
At the 2026 Premier Bet Sapitwa 4 bonanza in Mulanje, Ekhaya also beat Red Lions 5-4 in penalty shoot outs after a goalless draw.
